SHROUDS
They’re landscapes of “the secluded garden”, a Trecento theme of enclosure and protection. A shroud of iridescent gold defines the deer, loons, dogs, swifts, lily pads and salmon. It surrounds the figures, but also isolates them. Shapes, patterns and their relationships to the canvas are the focus of the work, with flow and chance important elements of my paintings.
I like the rawness because it exposes the human need to paint.
