My painting for the past ten years had been on and off.
Some years I didn't even paint.
One afternoon while hiking along the beach,
I saw a black Labrador chasing a deer down the bluff.
The deer ran in the water and the dog followed without hesitation,
both kept swimming, straight out into the Sound.
I watched until the waves swallowed the pair.
Why didn't the deer return to shore?
Why didn't the dog give up chase?
I started to paint again.
